Yesterday I returned from The Beatherder Festival, which is situated in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire. I am feeling completely exhausted however it was worth it. The festival is really relaxed and you feel you can really make the most of it without feeling your completely enclosed, which I feel sometimes happens at festivals . Everybody is super friendly and there's plenty to do whether its mooch around the shops, get married (yes there really was a wedding ceremony tent), get a tattoo, party in the trees, dance on the pews in 'the chapel' or simply relax and enjoy some great music in the sun.
Of course you have to rough it a few days, having about 4 hours sleep waking up sweltering in a tent at 6.30, no shower and the yucky toilets, which I have to say were pretty decent the first couple of days considering, however its only 3 days. Buying things there is expensive such as the hot food but I guess they always are but the beauty of Beatherder is that they are completely fine about you taking in food and drink. Also on the Saturday night of the festival everybody dresses up to whichever letter of the name they are up to in that year so this year it was 'H'. In our group of friends we had the Hacienda, Her Royal Highness, Honeyboo and a few Hawaiians but there were some amazing ideas such as helicoptors, hen do's and someone was the human centipede yuckk!
There was an area called toil trees which is amazing especially at dusk with spirals projected onto the trees and glowing lanterns dangling. Another thing I loved was that you could easily get around and if you're lost you can easily find people, additionally you don't have the annoying thing of if you really want to see an act you don't have to wait hours at that stage to be at the front, you can simply just make you way through seconds before they start.
The definite highlight for me was being right at the front for 'The Happy Mondays' they were honestly amazing and I was completely star struck as they've been a band that I've grown up with. My parents would constantly play them when I was younger and I never thought that one day I'd be right at the front for one of their performances.
